| Charmaine
Hooper is one of the most decorated female soccer players
to ever play the game. In 2006, Hooper was the all-time leader
for Team Canada’s national team with 126 international
caps and 64 international goals. She has had a tremendous
influence on women’s soccer, especially in North America.
As a college student Charmaine played
for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. In her sophomore season
she led the ACC with 15 goals and was named to the All-ACC
first team. In her next two collegiate seasons she was tabbed
an NCAA All-American. She holds multiple NC State scoring
records and points records.
Charmaine’s international career
started in 1986 when she took the field for the first time
with the Canadian national team. In 1995 Hooper participated
in her first Woman’s World Cup. She would go on to play
in the next two Woman’s World Cups. In 2003 she earned
her 100th international cap against Mexico, scored two goals
as a defender, and was named to the Woman’s World Cup
all-star team.
Hooper has also had an impressive
professional career. She played internationally in Norway,
Japan, and Italy. While playing in Japan she was awarded the
title of league MVP and led the league in scoring twice. In
1997 she played for the Rockford Dactyls where she led the
league in scoring in her first two seasons. In 2000, she led
the Chicago Cobras to the W-League title. To add to her professional
career, in 2002 Hooper was inducted to the United Soccer League’s
Hall of Fame.
Today, along with caring for her daughter,
she is playing for Fort Worth FC one of the WPSL’s newest
teams. Her leadership and experience will lend a helping hand
to her teammates as well as elevate the team to a high level.
